Both USSNevada(BB-36) and her sister ship USSOklahomawere sunk in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. UnlikeOklahoma, which was scrapped,Nevadawas repaired, refit, and returned to service. BB-36 served with distinction during the invasion of France, and also in the Pacific, supporting the amphibious landings at Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

Obsolete by the end of the war,Nevadasurvived the nuclear testing at Bikini Atoll during Operation Crossroads. She was finally sunk as a practice target in 1948.
