A near fine copy with light spotting to boards, lower edge of endpapers slightly discolored, previous owners stamp and handwritten date of 19 Dec 1979 on front free endpaper, in original color pictorial dust jacket (two faint creases at corners of front flap).

First US edition. The third book in Diana Wynne Jones Dalemark Quartet, but the one which occurs first chronologically. Set in a time before Dalemark was established, this book presents the origins of the mythology that permeates the rest of the series.
