Decorative endpapers; 19 full-page two-color illustrations and 3 full-page halftone illustrations. Lower corners and lower spine end a tad rubbed, a few slight bumps at edges of boards, previous owners name on front free endpaper, else a remarkably clean, bright copy with the boards and spine cloth still bright white! Scarce particularly in this remarkable condition!

First and only edition. The third of the annual Swedish collection of fairy tales, titled Among Gnomes and Trolls in English, and one of only 8 editions illustrated entirely by John Bauer before his untimely death in a shipwreck in 1918. This marks the first appearance of these illustrations by Bauer, which though painted in full color, were reproduced in halftone and two colors due to the technical limitations of the time (some having been reproduced in full color in later editions alongside the Einer Norelius illustrations).
